NEW PODCAST SERIES LAUNCHES HONORING THE STORY OF AFRICVILLE: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

[Africville, Nova Scotia], June 27, 2022 - A new podcast series, titled “Africville Forever”, launches today across all podcast streaming platforms and in Canada on the Frequency Podcast Network. The series unearths the story of the Black Canadian community of Africville, its birth, thriving community life and its tragic destruction. The podcast is hosted by Alfred Burgesson, CEO and Founder of the Tribe Network and Edward Carvery III, grandson of Africville resident Edward “Eddie” Carvery, who has followed in his grandfather’s footsteps as a vocal advocate of restitution for former Africville residents.

“As a descendant, this experience has been both an honour and a privilege. So many beautiful ancestors are no longer able to share their voices. I want people to know that the mistakes of the past can only become our own if we take no action or accountability.” -  Eddy Carvery III, Co-host and Co-creator of Africville Forever

“Our goal is to inspire people, in all corners of the globe, to take action in support of Africville’s descendants. This story is an inspiration to communities that continue to build after facing devastating loss, and the people that never give up the fight.” Alfred Burgesson, Co-host and Co-creator of Africville Forever

“The Podstarter team is humbled to have played a part in bringing this important project to life supporting the hosts and guests. We are glad the world will get to hear about this incredible story of resilience and hope.” -  Rhys Waters, Producer

The five-part series retells the Africville story through the memory and experience of one of Afrcville’s prominent families and chronicles the various paths of justice-seeking and resistance the community has taken to reclaim the land. Through inclusion of rare archival audio and a mosaic of guest voices, Africville Forever immortalizes this harrowing story of perseverance for global audiences to hear.

Episodes will air Mondays from June 27th - July 25. Co-hosts of the podcast are encouraging those who have thoughts and history to share about Africville to reach out to by email: africvilleforever@gmail.com on Instagram @africvilleforever.

About Africville

Africville was an African-Canadian village located just north of Halifax and founded around the mid-19th century. The City of Halifax demolished the once-prosperous seaside community in the 1960s in what many said was an act of racism. The mayor of the Halifax Regional Municipality apologized for the action in 2010. For many people, Africville represents the oppression faced by Black Canadians, and the efforts to right historic wrongs. - Canadian Encyclopedia
